National Savings Day
Guess what?
According to Capital One, October 12th is National Savings Day!
Honestly, it never even dawned on me that this day existed, but I love it. Capital One introduced National Savings Day in 2017 to encourage people to save smarter and feel more confident about their finances.
Saving money doesn’t have to feel like a restriction; it’s about intention. It’s about creating space for freedom, peace of mind, and flexibility in your life.
Why National Savings Day Matters
Let’s be real: most of us don’t stop to celebrate saving money. We celebrate spending sales, upgrades, brunches, you name it. But National Savings Day flips that narrative.
It’s a reminder that every dollar you save is a decision to protect your peace and prepare for your future.
Saving isn’t about saying no to what you want; it’s about saying yes to your long-term goals.
My Two Favorite Ways to Save
1️⃣ Meal Prepping
Eating out adds up faster than we realize. That “just a $12 lunch” a few times a week easily turns into $300 a month, and that’s money that could be sitting in your savings account, growing.
When you meal prep, you’re not just saving money, you’re saving time, energy, and the stress of last-minute decisions. It’s one of the easiest financial habits to build consistency with.
2️⃣ No-Spend Challenge
For the next few days, only spend on essentials or necessities.
No impulse buys. No, “it was on sale.” No “I deserve it” splurges. I’ve even done this for months at a time, especially when I know I have big purchases coming up.
This isn’t about punishment; it’s about mindfulness. It’s hitting pause and asking, “Do I really need this right now?”
You’d be surprised how many times the answer is no and how powerful it feels to have that control.
Small Steps, Big Wins
The key to saving is starting where you are. You don’t have to make six figures to start saving; you just have to start.
So today, take one small step:
Set up an automatic transfer to your savings.
Pack your lunch.
Skip that impulse Amazon purchase.
Saving is a daily choice, and every choice builds momentum.
Future You will thank you for every smart decision you make today.
Now go celebrate National Savings Day by keeping a little more of your money where it belongs with you.
